Biography
What's been your highlight during your time at Guildhall?
I would say it was my Graduation Project: Jamie Webb Presents. Through organising, designing and operating my own club night, I was given the platform to improve my skills in Production Management, Lighting Design, Vectorworks and Avolites Titan, to a professional level I am proud of. I have been given the opportunity to further develop these skills outside of Guildhall through Smyle Creative events and co-running/designing a pop-up club night: Mind Of Ours.
What's been your highlight in the industry?
As mentioned previously, I’ve had the opportunity to co-found and design club nights from Brixton to Bermondsey with the collective Mind Of Ours – a night set up to help raise money for the mental health charity Mind – aiming to bring people together through the love of music and visual arts. I have also had the opportunity to travel across the UK and Europe with Smyle Creative as a Lighting and Production Technician which has been eye-opening and motivating beyond belief.
What other passions and projects have you enjoyed exploring during your time at Guildhall?
At the time of writing this, I am in the middle of a large-scale visualisation project through which we are attempting to bring to life an Opera Double Bill, Opera Scenes and Grease, pushing the boundaries of integrating software such as Notch, D3 and Capture in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. I have been given the responsibility of leading the Capture side of the project and have developed my skills in it to a high standard.
What's something you've learned that you feel will help you when you graduate?
The skills I have gained in Capture I hope will push me forward into the ever-growing field of pre-visualisation. As the industry is regaining stability, I aim to freelance in that area as it will be ever-more prevalent as time goes on. Once we are back on our feet, it will allow me to bring a broader skillset to the table when planning and executing events.
What are you most interested in working in after you graduate?
I have very much enjoyed managing events such as Mind Of Ours and during my Spring term when I was given the chance to Production Manage Guildhall’s vision of Antigone, which was sadly cut short due to the School’s closure. However, my true passion is for designing, programming and integrating lighting for events, clubs and festivals. Music and visual arts have such an incredible power to bring people together, and in such damaging and trying times as these, it has never felt more important to lift people’s spirits and bring back that feeling of unity and belonging.
